Ear surgery
Ear surgery, often called otoplasty or pinnaplasty, is a procedure to reshape, position, or resize the ears. Used primarily to correct “protruding ears” (prominent ears), large ears (macrotia), or congenital/traumatic deformities, the surgery improves the proportion between the ear and the face, usually with incisions hidden behind the ear.
It corrects prominent ears, cartilage shape, large or stretched earlobes, and reconstruction after trauma.
Target audience: Commonly performed on children from 5-6 years of age (when the ear stops growing) and adults.
Procedure: The cartilage is reshaped and fixed with stitches, usually through incisions behind the ear, making the scars almost imperceptible.
Recovery: Use of a protective bandage for a few weeks, with visible results in about 3 months and complete healing within a year.
Otoplasty improves self-esteem and facial symmetry.
